Zero Waste Working Group

The goals of the Zero Waste Working Group are to reduce waste and improve recycling and composting on campus.

The ZW Working Group was formed in 2013 (originally as the Waste & Recycling Working Group) in order to have a group specifically focus on this campus issue.

Participants regularly include staff from Dining, Facilities, and the Zilkha Center as well as students and occasionally faculty. It is open to everyone.

During the 2015-2016 school year, the ZW Working Group updated the campus recycling guide and recycling signage around campus and partnered with Athletics to install recycling bins in half of the campus locker rooms. In the summer of 2016, a ZW subcommittee dug into improving composting in dining halls.

During the 2016-2017 school year, “Compost Friends” began in the fall, a waste audit was conducted in January, and composting in dorms was piloted.
