Emissions Background

Total campus energy use increased over 55% from fiscal year 1991 to Williams' peak in fiscal year 2005. During the same time period, emissions increased nearly 50%. One of the major drivers behind the increase in energy use and emissions was an increase in building space - building space which needs to be heated, cooled, ventilated, and lighted. Emissions Goals

In January of 2007, Williams College committed to a goal of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions to 10% below 1990-1991 levels by 2020.
