Greening the President's House

Toilet: 1.6 gallons of water for a full flush, only .8 gallons for a half flush.     Lights:  In one room, the bulbs used 75 watts before the retrofit, 12 watts after, with nicer light and longer life.

Step by step, one LED bulb at a time, the Zilkha center is making the President’s house a haven of energy efficiency. Over 30 LED’s were installed throughout the house as well as occupancy sensors, and a new dual flush toilet. Zilkha interns also installed energy meters on two refrigerators and the washing machine to determine which appliances were the biggest energy spenders. The most wasteful will be replaced. That’s one small step for the Zilkha Center, and one giant leap for the larger Williams College Community!
